Fantasy Football Draft Guide 2014

Key:

Hot Pick= Player Has Breakout Potential

Buyer Beware=Player Carries Extreme Risk Due to Age, Injury Or Significant Change

Top 20 Breakdown

#1 Jamaal Charles-RB-Kansas City Chiefs

Like LaDainian Tomlinson in his fantasy prime, Charles is a numerical beast that threatens to carry the weakest of lineups on a weekly basis.

A PPR league must-have, Charles benefits from the presence of a conservative quarterback in Alex Smith.

Despite schedule and o-line concerns, Charles is set to have another monster year before his numbers start to trend downwards within the next two-three seasons.

#2 LeSean McCoy-RB-Philadelphia Eagles

Arguments exist that anoint “Shady” as the true king of the 2014 draft kingdom.

They are rooted in the fact that he led the NFL in attempts (314) in 2013.

McCoy placed second in the yards of 20-plus yards category.

Both numbers best Charles.

The problem is that the Eagles have imported Darren Sproles onto their roster and he is a legit threat to cut into McCoy’s production.

McCoy will still be the workhorse as the Eagles wide receivers are hardly elite.

There is no doubt that McCoy could reign supreme, but Eagles coach Chip Kelly is all about spreading the ball around and that alone should place him in the number two spot.

#3 Peyton Manning –QB-Denver Broncos

What went on during the Super Bowl has nothing to do with fantasy outlooks.

Manning’s third year with the Broncos and second year with slot machine Wes Welker should prove to be fruitful.

#4 Adrian Peterson-RB-Minnesota Vikings

Groin issues were a setback for the league’s best all-around back in 2013. Peterson is a workout/rehab freak as he has shown in the past.

The Vikings passing game is a work-in-progress so his numbers should be nothing short of excellent.

It’s also of interest to note that with a Week 10 bye, Peterson will be in play for the bulk of the fantasy year without interruption.

#5 Calvin Johnson-WR-Detroit Lions

There is a reluctance to place Johnson in the top 5 due to pesky injuries that kept him out of two games in 2013 and limited his production to 84 receptions.

After offseason surgery, Johnson has reverted back to destroying the competition in training camp.

The early forecast (albeit against a leaky secondary) is enough for us to bite.

The signing of former Seahawk Golden Tate will only help Johnson in vertical matchups as defenses much account for Tate.
